Ouled Teima MoRCE-Net Access center students had the great pleasure of having Miss Anna Ingrid, a Peace Corps volunteer, as a guest speaker. She gave a compelling and rich presentation and workshop about Halloween. Her interactive teaching method attracted students ‘attention and assured their enjoyment of the time they have spent in her company. We, teachers and students, are grateful to Anna for kindly accepting our invitation and coming along and look forward to further collaboration with her.

Term4, Session2

Term 4, Session 2 (October 18, 2014)

Core English teaching:

The Opener served to introduce the characters of the book. Through reading and speaking, students talked about regular activities, nationalities, likes and dislikes. Then, they categorized unit 1 vocabulary, contextualized listening extracts and did a questionnaire about how independent they and their classmates are. Through reading, listening and speaking they used the present progressive and sequencing adverbs to talk about future arrangements. After listening and repeating the lines of a recording for pronunciation and intonation. Students enjoyed taking orders and ordering meals in a restaurant. The focus was on making requests, using countable and uncountable nouns. Assignments included writing about how independent they are, completing Emma’s postcard to her parents (p.9) and doing  workbook exercises (p.76,77).

During the break, two alumni students talked about their experience in ACTS in Agadir, which helped motivate everyone to take part in the event. (See video on You Tube Channel). We gave our students guidance on the criteria their work will be judged by and showed them some videos.

As for the enhancement session, Mr. Aaziz el Afif guided students through how to write a story. He showed them that narrative writing just like making a cake, needs ingredients the first of which is Practice, the setting(time and place), characters(primary and secondary) and the plot. Then he talked about the methods of storytelling (first-person, second-person and omniscient narrators), the structure of the story, first event, main event and final event. To put things in practice, students worked in groups to read a story, complete a table and rewrite the story using the first-person narrator point of view. Students performed well and showed a lot of interest in the activity.

Term 4, Session 1

Ouled Teima MoRCE-Net Access Center started term 4 today, October 11. The students were so happy and eager to start their studies after the short break they had. As a warm up, students talked about how they spent Eid al Adha feast and were assigned the task of preparing presentations and posters about Halloween, which is celebrated on October 31. Core English teaching activities included final term 3 test correction and remedial work. Then we finished unit 4 doing some interesting pronunciation, vocabulary and language exercises, one of which sparked storytelling, an activity students enjoyed tremendously.

Mr. Aaziz el Afif took over and showed students how to turn a short story into a script. The learners read a story, studied it, wrote a script and performed it. They interacted so well with their teacher, who was happy and satisfied about their performance and motivation.

In the end, students were given Insights4, transportation money and together, we created an action plan and agreed on the steps to be taken to get ready for ACTS.
