Spelling Bee

Announcement

  Dear ERCE members,

I hope you are all doing well. I would like to inform you that tomorrow, Friday 7 February,

there will be two activities:

    1. A reading session: Students from each level will be given a one page reader that they will read , share its content with the others and discuss it. The objective is to develop your reading abilities.

    2. A spelling bee competition: There will be a team spelling bee and a solo one. Contestants will be asked to spell (state the letters of a word). It's a great way to improve your English and it's a lot of fun. The word list that will be used is taken from each level textbook(Outlook/Gateway1/2) units covered so far.

The competition will start with competitors introducing themselves and a practice round .

Here are some basic rules for spelling bee:

   1. The pronouncer announces the word to be spelled. He speaks slowly and clearly, without distorting the normal pronunciation of the word. He uses the word in a sentence and says the word again.

   2. The speller listens carefully to the pronouncer and asks for the word to be repeated if necessary.

   3. When the speller is sure she understands the word, she pronounces it, spells it and then says the word again. She must say it loudly enough for the judge to hear it.

   4. The judge(s) determines whether or not the word was spelled correctly.

   5. If the correct spelling was given, the speller remains in the game.

   6. If the spelling was incorrect, that speller is eliminated from the game. The judge gives the correct spelling of that word. Then the pronouncer reads a new word to the next student.

   7. When there are only two spellers left, if one player misspells a word, the other player must spell that word correctly, plus one more word to be declared the winner of the spelling bee.

                                                                                                      Get ready

One page reader and Spelling Bee

On Friday, February 7, Excel MoRCE-Net Resource Center of English students in Abdellah Chefchaouni spent an agreeable and interesting time reading a one-page reader that they enjoyed immensely and competed in a spelling bee competition based partly on the reading. For most of them, it was their first experience. The challenge was very strong and all participants tested their skills and knowledge of how words are spelled.

The headmaster of our school, Mr. Mohamed Al Hob, and some teachers were among us. They were astonished and so pleased to see how so many students were interested, involved and motivated. They all encouraged us to keep up the good work and wished the students success.
